2021-04-20 09:25:10

I would like to thank all GRIT teachers for their diligent instruction on the standardized tests.

When I found GRIT three years ago, I made my decision to study at this school. At that time, I did not know what the obstructions on the way of studying abroad, let alone how to overcome them. GRIT helped me successfully cope with two big bosses, TOEFL and SAT.

TOEFL consists of four parts: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. To increase my vocabulary, the teachers offered me word lists to recite and memorize which were effective when I worked on the problems. Gillian taught me on the Listening section. She incredibly improved my stenography to such an extent that I can nearly write down all the details of the listening texts. In the real TOEFL tests, I got perfect scores on the Listening section all the time. I was weak in Speaking, so I practiced according to the direction of Polly. I created my own stories and templates to eliminate my speaking-phobia that intermittently disrupted my test-taking process. Yoyo transformed my traditional Chinese logic, which was entangled and twisted, into a more direct American logic required by TOEFL Reading Test and laid a strong foundation on for my SAT Reading. When I discussed the passages with her, I often broke the boundary of the problem sets, observing deeper issues and details. Michael was my teacher on Writing and lent me great skills like divergent thinking and brainstorming. No matter it was on TOEFL Writing or SAT Writing, his strategies always helped me to solve the puzzling prompts that seemed to be ambiguous. Meanwhile, he asked me to create my own writing template. The last time I took the TOEFL test, I wrote up to 700 words in the independent writing section, owing to Michael’s instruction.

Since I got to know SAT in January 2015, teachers at GRIT have greatly aided me in Reading and Writing. Yoyo continued to teach Reading and gave me a long list of books to read. Though I did not finish reading the whole list of books, the books were of great importance to my SAT reading preparation. I was very touched when she kept teaching reading via WeChat Video when she went to Australia. Michael taught me Writing and Grammar, and his ample tactics gave me the confidence to get rid of any problem in the SAT Writing Section. He also required me to take records of the hard problems that appeared on the mock tests, which might appear as different forms in the real tests. Vincent gave me great advice on using the randomly ordered version of Barron 3500 Words, which had a better effect than using the ordered one. In the end, my SAT score was not bad.

During the study at GRIT, I have always been grateful for Alina’s meticulous preparation of course arrangement and learning assistance, giving me huge convenience. She introduced me to Prof. Richard Spuler, a tenure German professor in Rice University, from whom I learned a lot. I am also grateful for Principal Lin, whose support and aid always accompanied me throughout my journey at GRIT.

I know that my accomplishments now are inseparable from the teachers’ painstaking help. Thank you all again.
